Lazzarelle Social Cooperative
WHO WE ARE
We are a women's cooperative founded in 2010. We produce artisan coffee, according to the ancient Neapolitan tradition, inside the largest female prison in Pozzuoli - Naples. We work with female prisoners who want to be active protagonists of their change, because as Simone de Beauvoir teaches “One is not born a woman, but becomes one”.
THE IDEA
We, as free women, have chosen to engage actively in an all-female enterprise that values craftsmanship and generates social inclusion. Because only work offers dignity and the possibility of real redemption. Lazzarelle's coffee was born by bringing together two weak subjects: women prisoners and small coffee producers in the southern part of the world. We buy coffee beans from the Shadilly, a cooperative that promotes cooperation projects with small producers. Then we added tea, infusions and herbal teas to our coffee production.
RIGHTS
Up to now, 56 women have alternated in our cooperative, each with its own history, different and identical to the others. Before working with us, many of them had never had a regular employment contract. With us they learn a job, but above all they acquire awareness of their rights and their possibilities.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Our coffee is produced, in every phase of its working process, without adding additives, respecting the natural preparation times of the ancient Neapolitan artisan school. Our coffee packs are made of plastic without aluminum in order to be recycled with plastic in separate waste collection.
OUR PRODUCTS
LAZZARELLE COFFEE
Lazzarelle coffee is produced with the traditional technique of Neapolitan artisans, a blend of fine coffee made up of 50% arabica and 50% robust.
The roasting process is one of the fundamental phases in the processing of the beans. In addition to making green coffee edible, it gives the aromatic and organoleptic profile characteristic of every blend of coffee. Roasting beans, together with the mixing of 5 different varieties and types, rather than a technical skill, is a true art in which the Cooperative, with the help and teaching of an old Mastro Torrefattore, has ventured into the period experimentation by succeeding in developing a good ability to create quality blends and knowing how to manage the roasting phase, to which each type of coffee responds in a physically and chemically different way.
Each package of coffee in its own way becomes unique in flavor.
This choice has rewarded us, in the sense that over time we have managed to create our trustworthy clientele that shares the sense of the project and that regularly buys our coffee, finding it ethically sustainable and above all good.
The slowness of the traditional production process (up to 10 times slower than the industrial one) with the slow roasting method and natural gasification is considered the only means to bring out the refinement and aromatic complexity of high quality coffees. In fact, the wait is worth it. The coffee has a thick and aromatic taste, can be enjoyed without adding sugar or sweetener.

TEAS, INFUSIONS AND HERB TEAS
Tea is the third most consumed drink in the world along with water and coffee but also one of the oldest. Tasty, refreshing, in all its varieties, it is also rich in beneficial properties enough to be considered a natural medicine. Lazzarelle teas, infusions and herb teas are packaged using an artisanal method. For the preparation we use only organic raw materials and fresh, fine and high quality ingredients.
LIME AND GINGER INFUSION ORGANIC
Ginger is good for the blood and the nervous system, being an anticonvulsant and an analgesic. Also important for combating tiredness, stress and seasonal ills, thanks to its properties that make it a true natural antiseptic. It also promotes digestion and is an effective remedy against nausea and ulcer.

ROOIBOS RED TEA ORGANIC
Originating from South Africa, Rooibos is more prized than red teas. The infusion that is obtained has a naturally sweet taste and for this it can be tasted even without sugar. It is also good cold, alone or combined with some fruit juice. It is naturally free of caffeine and with a low content of tannins, characteristics that make it suitable for children too. Rich in minerals, vitamins and flavonoids, it has antioxidant and digestive properties.

GREEN SENCHA TEA ORGANIC
Coming from China and Japan, it is the most prized and widespread of green teas. It has a sweet and delicate taste. Its leaves are long and flattened, the infusion is bright yellow-green. Rich in vitamins, it promotes capillary permeability and elasticity of the blood vessel wall, and is an excellent source of manganese, potassium and fluorine. It is therefore a medicinal plant, rather than a simple drink.

LIQUORICE AND MINT INFUSION ORGANIC
Fine herbal tea with a sweet and intense aroma that combines the freshness of mint with the intensity of licorice and fennel seeds. The ingredients that compose it perform purifying, digestive, decongestant and carminative actions. Perfect after meals, it is also excellent to be enjoyed cold.

CHAMOMILE
Chamomile has been known since antiquity for its sedative and calming properties. Its delicately scented flowers contain an essential oil (azulene) and other substances that give it soothing and relaxing properties. Excellent for combating digestive problems and muscle spasms, it is useful in case of nervous tension and stress. With good anti-inflammatory properties, it is used as a decongestant, softening and successfully also as a pain reliever.

BLACK FIRST FLUSH TEA ORGANIC
Fine black tea comes from the homonymous Indian region of Darjeeling. The term First Flush refers to the first harvest, which occurs in spring, considered the best because it gives the leaves of the precious plant its aromatic and softness. The taste is fresh and flowery, and at the same time delicate.

Al termine della prima fase d'aula, le studentesse e gli studenti partecipano a giornate esplorative sul territorio al fine di toccare con mano alcune delle realtà analizzate in classe.
I ragazzi e le ragazze della III e IV C dell'ISIS Vittorio Veneto hanno visitato Mani Tese a Piazza Cavour, simbolo di solidarietà e giustizia sociale nel cuore della città di Napoli. All'interno della bottega del commercio equo e solidale, oltre ad esplorare i vari prodotti provenienti da economia sociale e carceraria e da piccole cooperative del sud del mondo, si sono confrontati su democrazia, beni comuni, consumo responsabile e critico. In questo modo, gli studenti e le studentesse hanno avuto l'occasione di riflettere sulla libertà e sulla responsabilità, in un ambiente unico che rappresenta da anni uno spazio di resistenza nel cuore di Napoli.
Grazie all'impegno dei volontari di Mani Tese, gli studenti e le studentesse si sono cimentati in un esercizio di dibattito incentrato sul tema delle disuguaglianze socio-economiche e sulla giustizia sociale.
Partendo da un case study realistico di un processo, i ragazzi e le ragazze si sono divisi in tre gruppi immaginando di rappresentare la difesa, l'accusa e la giuria, esercitando sia la propria capacità di immedesimazione e quindi di empatia, che la loro abilità retorica e di strutturazione del pensiero.
Le studentesse dell'Istituto Attilio Romanò, insieme alle operatrici di progetto, hanno visitato Chikù, lo spazio culturale gestito dalle associazioni Chi rom e chi e Kumpania, che da anni realizzano interventi di pedagogia inclusiva e laboratori di teatro sul territorio di Scampia, facendo incontrare la comunità partenopea e quella rom in ottica di collaborazione e sinergia.
All'interno di Chikù sorge un esempio di impresa sociale basato sull'unione tra il patrimonio gastronomico napoletano e quello balcanico. Abbiamo incontrato le donne protagoniste di questa impresa che ci hanno raccontato i loro vissuti e la loro esperienza di riscatto attraverso un lavoro creativo e unico nel suo genere.
Un'occasione preziosa per discutere, insieme in un cerchio, di emancipazione femminile e di indipendenza economica come mezzo per contrastare e superare relazioni interpersonali limitanti, controllanti e violente.
Abbiamo poi scoperto il primo ecomuseo della Campania: MOSS è uno spazio in cui ricordi e suggestioni di diverse comunità si fondono in modi creativi e affascinanti, attraverso il riciclo e il riutilizzo di materiali che riprendono forma attraverso le storie e le voci delle persone del territorio, ma anche le testimonianze dei visitatori.
Il cerchio delle donne da Chikù: insieme alla scoperta di imprenditoria femminile e attivismo che cambiano i quartieri e le periferie.
